Political Experience
Vania Kinard has lived in Washington, D.C. from 2008 to 2020 and has close to a decade's worth of experience in politics. In 2012, she was hired to work in the Compliance Department on President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign at the National Headquarters in Chicago and then at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee in Washington, D.C.
After her experience working on a Presidential campaign she spent a few years working as a Compliance Assistant in the Political Law Group at Perkins Coie Law Firm in D.C. From 2014 to 2016, she worked as a Compliance Manager at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in D.C. before she left to pursue a career in the music industry with her husband Dom Flemons “The American Songster”.
She attended college in D.C. at The Catholic University of America where she not only graduated with a degree in Politics but she became the President/Co-Founder of the Black Student Alliance and was a Resident Assistant. During her time in Undergrad, Vania worked at CUA Law School, DC Reads, and a summer program through the DC Department of Energy and Environment. In 2010, she was selected to be a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Emerging Leader Intern at the United States Treasury Department. She was then invited to join the CBCF Spring 2011 cohort where she attended George Washington University’s School of Political Management for a semester while interning on Capitol Hill in the Office of Congresswoman Karen Bass (currently the Mayor of Los Angeles). Vania advanced her academic studies after being selected for the prestigious 2011 Junior Summer Institute Fellowship Program at Princeton University’s School of Public Policy and International Affairs. In 2012, she spent time briefly interning at the Center for American Progress along with serving as a volunteer for David Grosso’s campaign for at-large member of the Council of the District of Columbia.
She is interested in political issues related to financial compliance, small businesses, music advocacy, technology, environmental policy, homelessness, voter protection, early childhood development, education, mental illness, and health care. Vania has experience in financial compliance, political campaigns, public speaking, field organizing, public policy, writing, scheduling, administrative tasks, accounting, and more.
